We are so grateful to have a wonderful group of volunteers to help us tend to our community, and we’re happy to introduce you to: Calli Adamson Bakken
Volunteering with Hope Blooms since: 2018
Why do you choose to volunteer with Hope Blooms?
I grew up in a flower shop. After moving to F/M to attend Concordia, I’ve sought out ways to continue to use my skills in a more relaxed capacity. I was excited to find out about Hope Blooms and immediately volunteered to help. I love the mission and opportunity to use my skills for such a good cause.
What’s your favorite flower and why?
I LOVE the ranunculus. It’s a fragile flower with a mind of its own so we don’t frequently see it up here. It comes in a ton of vibrant colors and has a beautiful texture. My wedding was one of the only places where I was able to work with it, and I was so excited!
Why is giving back in your community important to you?
I strongly believe that we need to create the world we want to live in. We can’t leave it up to others to do that for us. If we don’t invest in our local community, we are leaving it up to chance whether or not it will continue to be a place we want to live.
What’s your favorite way to spread joy?
I love anonymous gifts. Giving something without expectations, or putting the recipient on the spot, is my favorite way to give. I think that’s why Hope Blooms is such a perfect fit!
Name one of the most joyful moments in your life.
This is a tough one! We rescued a puppy mill survivor last summer. He was super shy and jumpy when we got him. Watching him learn to relax his muscles and let down his guard has been a very emotional and joyful experience for me.
What’s a hidden talent or something no one would ever guess about you?
As an avid music lover, I am frequently dabbling with new instruments. I love finding ways to supplement the melody without competing with it. My current musical passion is clawhammer banjo, and I’m hoping to get back into writing music with my brothers to play at local breweries and events.
What’s your favorite quote?
“I don’t want to live, I want to love first and live incidentally.” — Zelda Fitzgerald
When you’re not spreading joy with Hope Blooms, how do you spend your time?
I love spending time with my pets and working on projects to restore my 1960s house.
