We are so grateful to have a wonderful group of volunteers to help us tend to our community, and we’re happy to introduce you to: Katie Ehlis
Volunteering with Hope Blooms since: 2018
Why do you choose to volunteer with Hope Blooms?
A little bit of kindness can go a VERY long way, and I believe being part of an organization like Hope Blooms gives give back in an authentic and meaningful way.
Making a big difference in someone’s life can happen with something so small. The fact that we can take just a few flowers and give someone the gift of happiness, warmth and kindness is an awesome.
What’s your favorite flower and why?
I love big, poofy hydrangea flowers in light pinks and cream! I’m drawn to these flowers because they’re big, loud and I think that if they could talk, they would be very outgoing and extroverted (like me).
Why is giving back in your community important to you?
I feel very blessed to live in a community that has many great opportunities for me and my family. I believe in giving back as a way to ensure those opportunities continue for others including my kids. It’s important that my family and I be positively involved in the community that gives us so much!
What’s your favorite way to spread joy?
Finding the perfect card for a loved one is one of my favorite ways to spread joy. I’m that person who spends an unordinaryly strange amount of time reading through all my card options and laughing out loud because I want to make sure the card is just perfect!
Name one of the most joyful moments in your life.
One of the most joyful moments in my life is becoming a mom. It is crazy hard, BUT my kids bring me a ton of joy. Their smiles, laughs and hugs warm my heart.
What’s a hidden talent or something no one would ever guess about you?
My one hidden talent is that I can recite the alphabet backwards, really fast! I learned how to do it as a kid and have never forgotten how. It’s a pretty good party trick.
What’s your favorite quote?
“No matter how good you have it, it’s cool to want more.” – Mindy Kaling
When you’re not spreading joy with Hope Blooms, how do you spend your time?
Outside of Hope Blooms I’m typically with my family! We enjoy traveling, skiing and spending time with our friends here in the FM community. I’m also involved with the United Way and Rotary.
